The highest decision-making body at the Royal Institute of Art is the Board of Trusties. It consists of people appointed by the government, representatives of the teaching staff, students, and recognized staff organizations. The vice-chancellor, appointed by the government, is responsible for the daily management of the school.

The Education and Research Board is responsible for both first-cycle courses and artistic research and development.
