The aim of the studies is to provide basic knowledge of art and cultural history; the chronological order, theoretical notions, interpretative issues concerning art works, art practices and art historical discourses. Focus is on 20th century modernism as a base for contemporary art. Art history is studied thematically and relates to issues involving pre-modernist art production.
The art history studies are given continuously during the academic year and they are made up of lectures, seminars and excursions.
They form the foundation of the diversification and deeper studies given in the subject field theory and history of ideas of modern art.
In addition shorter courses are given, which give a possibility to go deeper into certain areas. The choice of subjects varies from year to year.
Final presentations are done in the form of exhibitions, discussions or written work.
