Masaki Fujihata

Masaki Fujihata, born in Tokyo 1956 is a media artist and professor at Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He started his career as a digital artist for ComputerGraphics and Animations in the early 80's. In the late 80's, he produced Computer Generated Sculpture and then, in the early 90's, he entered the field of Interactive Arts. His networked art-piece "Global Interior Project" received a Golden NIKA prize at the Ars Electronica Festival, Linz, Austria in 1996. His interactive book, "Beyond Pages," traveled around the U.S. and Europe and is installed in the permanent collection of ZKM (Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe,Germany) in 1997. In 1998 shared virtual environment art piece "Nuzzle Afar" was exhibited in Germany, Holland, Austria, Hungary, and Japan. In 1999 this piece was installed in Budapest, Linz, and Karlsruhe with a 1Mbit/sec ATM connection. Series of project "Field-Works" uses GPS (Global Positioning System for measuring position by satellite) with video camera, first exhibited in ICC gallery in 1994.
