Dysfunctional Comedy – a Book Release

DYSFUNCTIONAL
A book release, which is a variety show, which is a panel discussion, with drinks and music.

Marking the publication of Dysfunctional Comedy – A Reader, coming out this fall at Sternberg Press, a host of contributors to the book will meet with experts on art and comedy for a loosely formatted evening of high entertainment and low discourse.

Hosted by the co-editors: Lívia Páldi (curator and former director of BAC– Baltic Art Center) and Olav Westphalen (artist). Special guests include Miriam Katz, New York-based performer, comedian, writer, artforum-critic and bonafide comedy expert; Sandra Ilar, rising star of Swedish stand-up comedy; Aron Flam, Swedish stand-up comedian and self-proclaimed professional, discordial jew; Iris Smeds aka Vaska Fimpen, artist and one-woman punk band; Lars-Erik Hjertström Lappalainen, philosopher and Sweden’s laziest art critic; Roger von Reybekiel, international artist and impresario; and Lars Arrhenius, artist, musician, film maker who works with puppets and loves clay.

Dysfunctional Comedy – A Reader results from a three-year artistic research project about the role of obtuse humor in contemporary art initiated by Olav Westphalen and funded partially through The Royal Institute of Art, Stockholm and BAC–Baltic Art Center, Visby. The book summarizes a number of art works and performances by Swedish and international artists. It also includes original essays by Lívia Páldi, Roee Rosen, Aron Flam, Sally O’Reilly and Olav Westphalen.
